I’m going to take a brief moment away from the Red Sox to comment on the absolutely amazing Texas vs. USC game last night. This game was just too good to not comment on. It truly is satisfying as a sports fan when an overly hyped match-up more then lives up to expectations. Vince Young’s performance last night was one of the best I’ve ever seen in any sport on such a large stage. I was pulling for Texas due to the fact that I’m a chronic fan of the underdog; however both teams showed a lot of character, talent, and class. I was trying to look at USC as someone who isn’t a Pats fan may look at New England, and it was pretty interesting. Going into halftime you just knew USC was going to storm back and seeing the drama unfold in the last seven minutes was just really entertaining.
Over the Christmas holidays one of my favorite gifts was given to me by my girlfriend in the form of a video iPod (Thanks Jeannine!). For those of you who haven’t seen or played with one please take the time to get familiar with one. This is just another step in the convergence of multimedia. My background and profession is in video production, web design, and all assets multimedia, and this the video iPod is a must have for me.
I recently got into ABC’s Lost and it’s utterly addicting. I’ve been downloading episodes off of iTunes and watching them on my commute to work on the T. How cool is that? Now the next step in video replay and highlights took a step forward yesterday when it was announced that you’d be able to download all of the BCS Bowl games via iTunes. These are condensed 50 minute replays of the games, and I’ll be downloading the Rose Bowl as soon as it’s available (probably later today). The cost is only the price of a Starbucks Coffee, $1.99, and is just such a great idea.
It won’t be too far away now that you’ll be able to download the latest episode of Sportscenter or Sports Desk from iTunes while you’re taking a shower in the morning, sync it to your video iPod, and watch it on your commute on the T, subway, rail, whatever. There doesn’t even need to be a cost in this because you can have advertising within the cast. I’m really hoping that MLB and the Red Sox take note of this “new” technology and starts to offer up daily vlogs offering highlights, interviews, and commentary on all things baseball and/or Red Sox.
Once the season starts up again I may make a vlog entry on my first game experience at Fenway in 2006. Would this be something that would interest SawxBlog.com readers? I think it would, and it will be just another option offered on the site. Vlog’s are the next big step towards communication on the internet, and I think sports fans would benefit greatly from this new technology. We’re rabid and passionate about our teams and sports and can’t get enough of highlights and insight, seems like a perfect fit. Here’s to hoping tomorrow’s today.
