"I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man."
Game #1 - Dirty Dwight Howard elbows Big Baby square in the face, offensive foul called.
Game #2 - Pierce gets jersey pulled, elbowed by Dirty Dwight Howard then rakes his fingers across Pierce's face. Flagrant called.
Game #3 - Dirty Dwight Howard fouls Perk hard and throws him, following through again, to the ground.
Game #4 - KG gets elbowed directly in the face by Dirty Dwight Howard, pushes him back - only he gets called for the T.
Game #5 - Dirty Dwight Howard elbows Pierce and follows through hard making him land awkward. Foul called.
Game #5 - Dirty Dwight Howard elbows Big Baby, knocks out teeth, gives him concussion.
And just for the heck of it, here's video of Dirty Dwight Howard in the 2009 Playoffs, just last year, where he was suspended for a game for throwing a vicious elbow at Samuel Dalembert. Dirty Dwight Howard is a punk, plain and simple.

y'know, for all the shit people give KG for being a dirty player, dwight has already cemented his rep as one of the dirtiest. and while I'll admit the way KG plays (much like rodney harrison) can sometimes be viewed as dirty simply because he's going at it so hard, throwing elbows every time there's action under the basket is bush league...

If Doc sends Brian Scalabrine (aka - the Vanilla Godzilla CREDIT: 95.5 the Sports Hub) to hard foul Smiley Jokey Fun Man tonight I think the Garden's roof may explode. This has to happen now, right?

I want scal to foul dwight so hard that howard throws a punch and gets tossed...
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 11:21 AM
This is embarrassing for Celtics fans. If Howard's getting called for the fouls he commits, they're not dirty. Dirty are the players who get away with illegal behavior without getting called. See: Bruce Bowen's entire career.
Just beat the Magic already and quit the whining. The NBA just gave the Celtic back Perkins, who certainly didn't need to commit six technical fouls before the ghost seventh one was called. Good grief.
Posted by: Sam | May 28, 2010 at 11:42 AM
You guys are the biggest babies in the world. I'm not a fan of either team, but all these are just hard fouls, not dirty. The amount that DOESN'T get called on both of these teams is what you should really be pointing out.
You have some of the dirtiest players in the league between KG, Perkins, and Rondo; one of the sleaziest floppers in Pierce and you have the gall to call someone ELSE dirty. It's funny that you clarify that KG is just "playing hard" but Howard is dirty. Look in the mirror.
Posted by: Look in the mirror | May 28, 2010 at 11:45 AM
Every Celtics fan I know relishes the memory of McHale clotheslining Rambis in the 80's - seems like no one from Boston remembers that when their players are on the other end of the foul.
Posted by: Jeff | May 28, 2010 at 11:47 AM
Great great job.
One thing I will disagree, I don't think his joking and smiling is a facade. I think that is who he is. But everyone tells him, he needs to be tougher, he needs to be physical. But he has no idea how to do that. He thinks being physical means throwing elbows and doing all this other B.S. It isn't. But he doesn't know any better, and he is being taught but Patrick Ewing, another guy who knew nothing about what real, honest, tough, physical, basketball was all about.
Posted by: Stew | May 28, 2010 at 11:48 AM
Celtics won the 2008 finals with dirty play. Does anyone remember James Posey it was standard operating procedure for him to hack anyone within arms distance at the sound of any whistle. You reap what you sow queers. Don't worry I saw Pierce stashed a stretcher under the basket for this one so you guys might be in luck.

Boston is full of pussies...
Posted by: Steve-o | May 28, 2010 at 11:49 AM
Like Doc said, half of Perk's T's were bull double technicals, which can be called with little or no effort on the part of one of those players. And if these fouls are "called" why haven't some of those been technicals? A face shot should be an instant T, as recent history AGAINST the Cs has proven. Way to bring your points here, Sam, but they aren't based in any sensible thought.
Posted by: rod | May 28, 2010 at 11:51 AM
i really dislike the magic, and i guess i'm pulling for the celts, but my question: why does Paul Pierce have to writhe in pain EVERY time he hits the ground? he's never hurt! he always is back in the game 2 minutes after acting like he separated his shoulder (game #5 video above) or got a concussion. that guy really makes it hard for me to pull for you guys.

Posted by: The Truth | May 28, 2010 at 11:54 AM
Why don't you post the video for every hard foul that Dwight has taken throughout his career? If you started now you might be done in 10 years because he takes a bigger beating than any other NBA plaer HANDS DOWN. Yes, he does dish it out but he takes it 100 times as bad.

HAHA.. unreal. You all are getting pushed around a little and you dont like it. I dont see anything there that is so bad. Those would all be normal fouls in the 80s. Bunch of whimps up in Boston, and that tool Bill Simmons is your ringleader. I havent heard much out of that asshat since Game 3.
Posted by: Masecatt | May 28, 2010 at 11:56 AM
I´m all for punching Dirty Dwight, but isn´t Shelden Williams better suited for the job than Scal? Or could Doc send both of them?
Ideally he´d have them start and both tackle Dirty Dwight right after the tip off. That would be awesome...
Posted by: Diego Armando Maradonna | May 28, 2010 at 11:57 AM
@Look in the Mirror - Show me one, just one example of Rondo or Perk playing dirty. Both are ballers, plain and simple. You can play this game without trying to knock a guy's head off his shoulders...
@The Truth - yeah, the Celtics definitely didn't beat the Lakers with solid D, and Paul Pierce lighting them up. it was all dirty play...
@Steve-o - way to contribute something of value to the discussion...
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 11:57 AM
as a C's fan, and avid basketball watcher i don't think Howard is a "dirty" player...i think he plays hard and fouls hard. and there is nothing wrong with that, as others have pointed out, KG is the same way. but the thing that is frustrating is that Howard is also very whiny and trys too hard to be a good guy. if he gets fouled hard, he throws a little hissy. too many basketball stars today are too worried about their image and marketability.
as for Rondo and Pierce being "dirty", i don't know about that. Pierce taking charges and drawing fouls is all part of basketball. shrewd players are quick and know how to do that. live with it.
and for the Pierce haters who think he's a drama queen...dude got stabbed in the face and neck and then played a full season starting a month later. he gets a pass for the wheelchair incident. Vince Carter can't play with a hangnail.
Posted by: KO | May 28, 2010 at 11:59 AM
so i'm sure no one remembers rondo's antics against chicago in the first round last year right? or the fact that physical play and fights used to happen all the time back in the 80's and it was just considered part of the game? today's players are overprotected by the officials now (see: lebron, kobe, wade, pretty much every superstar in the league) and now everyone expects every single foul to be called, which leads to so many games being decided by free throws and not letting the players decide who wins and who loses. it's called playing hard, and we've seen the celtics do it time and time again over the last three years, they're just not used to getting it back. instead of complaining, the celtics just need to give it right back to him or finish the job and knock the magic out. so yes, dwight howard throws elbows and sometimes there are casualties, it sucks, especially in a seven game series where you have to see it every night (or every 3 nights with the current scheduling), but it's a two way street. tough it out and finish the job
Posted by: Ted | May 28, 2010 at 12:01 PM
@KO - spot on...
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 12:02 PM
If you watch pretty much every play where you're talking about the follow through, the celtics player is continuing the shot attempt so dwight is forced to go after the ball, imagine how much s*%@ he would have gotten if he let it go in after the foul. To add to that, let's not say that KG hasn't provoked some of it, perk too, every time dwight is in the post there's a hard elbow to his back. You show the stuff dwight does, which may be more than needed but "its the playoffs."
Posted by: b | May 28, 2010 at 12:04 PM
Seriously, of all NBA fan bases that should whine about another team's dirty play, Boston is easily 30th in line.
Which is not to say that Howard isn't a dirty player, he is.

@Ted - there's a difference between playing hard, and intentionally swinging elbows at guys' heads. why is this so hard to understand? and this isn't the 80s anymore. if it was, guys would be getting T'd up just for looking at the refs...
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 12:06 PM
@The Truth - that's all you have? one play? I'll give you that one, Rondo intentionally shoved him, and he got T'd for it...
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 12:07 PM
@Kris... Shit I didn't know you expected me to compile a compilation retard. I seem to remember Paul Pierce intentionally shoving the douche that is Reddick last game as well. No mention of that. The series is getting tough stop bitching this is the style your team thrives at.
Posted by: The Truth | May 28, 2010 at 12:10 PM
For all the "It's the playoffs" comments, and "what about play in 80's" - read the post from yesterday. This ISN'T the 80's anymore, and under David Sterns watch the stars are coddled more than a new born.
If KG gets a one game suspension for his elbow to Quentin Richardson then where's the equal justice? Add on top of that (this isn't whining, this is fact) atrocious ref'ing in Game #5 you have to start questioning. Sure they rescinded a foul, but what does that do? We still didn't have Perk (and his fouls) for more than a 1/2.

Posted by: The Truth | May 28, 2010 at 12:11 PM
Not a fan of either team, but I love the way Howard plays. It may be "dirty" in today's NBA, but these are good playoffs fouls (some of them are unintentional like Big Baby's concussion). Anyone who has ever played a playoff or tournament basketball game is told to foul the way Howard fouls. If you are giving up a foul anyway you make sure you don't give up the AND 1. Howard made sure Pierce couldn't get a three-point play out of it. Suck it up Celtics fans, you could get just as many of these videos out of Garnett, Pierce and Allen. These guys are complaining about Howard because suddenly its a series. If you keep complaining about these fouls then the Magic are going to win. They are the much tougher team now.

@The Truth - I fully accept Rondo made a dirty play. One dirty play. Keep 'em coming, or is it too much work to continue trawling YouTube?
Posted by: Kris | May 28, 2010 at 12:20 PM
@Kris- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpPoZAxgYws same series as the play above. looks like something howard would do right? and it has nothing to do with whether or not the whistle is blown. and that non-flagrant called would have give the bulls back possession after the free throws and could have changed the implications of the game. just giving a counter example.
you make it sound like howard is running around intentionally elbowing all the Celtics in the face. not every video up there is intentional. i'll concede that howard doesn't play clean basketball and that he does hit players in the face from time to time. he's not the first to do it and certainly won't be the last. the bottom line is, the complaining won't help the celtics one bit, all they have to do is knock howard down and send him a message and/or win game 6 and none of this will even matter. either one works for me
Posted by: Ted | May 28, 2010 at 12:26 PM
Please people. These are not "dirty". These are hard fouls. And I have a hard time telling how hard any of these are, because I know that the Celtic players like to flop and act every time they are touched.
Posted by: Austin | May 28, 2010 at 12:32 PM
The only one of those videos that you could call a dirty play is the one from last year against Philly otherwise everything else has been a good hard playoff foul. People did it all the time in the 80s and 90s and no one said shit. It ridiculous to think that he hit Glen Davies on purpose first off Nate Robinson didn't block the shot he hit his arm which went straight down to Big Baby's face.

@Derek Hixon: Vanilla Godzilla is NOT Brian Scalabrine. That name has been used, and rightly so, for years in reference to Joel Przybilla. That man is truly the Vanilla Godzilla. Also, Przybilla actually looks like a godzilla. Plus, his last name has all that double 'L' action. Finally, I submit the following: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3356/3229524501_53bc050c33.jpg

Posted by: Ted | May 28, 2010 at 12:46 PM
@KO - If we want to let them play, that is fine. We will let Dwight throw his elbows, and the Celts can deal with that...but don't take away our best defender on these pussy "double" technicals that the officials have been handing out, simply because they have lost control of the game. Suspend guys for too many flagrants, or for too many techs for aguing - but these double techs have been ludicrous on both sides.

As long as you're at it, you should put together a video compilation of steroid use in baseball in the early part of this decade, but make sure you don't mention any Red Sox guys. That would be ironic.

On a side note, Simmons is the biggest idiot out there. Will find any excuse to suck at the teet of his beloved B-Town teams.
Simmons is the biggest bandwagon fan I have ever seen. I guess he is no longer following the Bruins since their departure from the playoffs. Only when the team is hot -- hey Simmons?

The Celtics and their fans need a little Vagisil it seems.

some of dwights elbows are rarely intentional. the philly one from last year i would say was. but as for the others when that 6 foot 11 "dirty" dwight goes up to block a shot and comes straight down how is he supposed to prevent hitting big baby who i doubt he could see.... paul pierce exaggerates to get fouls. i credit him for being able to shoot and draw fouls... good for him, but he needs to drop the acting career. the only reason these videos are up is because your veteran floppers can't close a series after being up 3-0

I had no rooting interest in this series, but after reading this bullshit, I'm gonna root for the Magic. Could the fucking gay ass Celtics fans complain more? Jesus Christ. Pierce is a smart, good player, but give me a break, he's the dirtiest player ever. He fucking does that stupid Kobe thing where we pretends to shoot and then he jumps into the person who tries to block him and flops on the ground at least 5 times per game. Plus he gets superstar fouls. Rondo is learning to flop like Pierce. KG and Perkins are just straight up dirty. This is ridiculous, Dwight is just playing hard basketball. Don't like it? Throw elbows back, again, this is the FUCKING PLAYOFFS you crybabies. I hope the Magic come back Flyers-style now. Then Boston sports fans might SHUT THE FUCK UP. The Celtic haters are immense. Huh? Guess the richest tradition in basketball and rafters smothered with championship banners will do that though.
I figured people would be more creative then calling us "pussies" or "faggots". Are we even supposed to be offended by that? At least peeps like George M. are trying to add something half useful to an argument.
KG gets a suspension for his half-hearted elbow - Dwight gets nothing for any of his continued antics (there are more this series). He's dirty, and that's fine because that should be his game, just don't act like he's not.
Anyone with a set of eyeballs can see he's been playing dirty this series. And cut the "playoff basketball" crap, the game isn't called like that anymore, if Perk can't get away with why should Howard?
GO CELTICS!
(Ps - thanks for all the hits Magic fans, looks like Denial is not just a river)
Posted by: Derek Hixon | May 28, 2010 at 06:00 PM
Howard wasn't whistled for a foul on about half of those plays. And there's no need to flail your elbows after every block attempt, shot attempt, or rebound attempt. Howard definitely knows what he's doing. Just because Mark Jackson says it's not intentional, doesn't mean we have to accept it as gospel. Not only is Howard elbowing people, but he's wrenching their bodies while they're in the air, which can easily lead to guys getting hurt. If the Celtics tried these antics, they'd have Perk, Baby, and Sheed all fouled out before Howard had 3 fouls.
Posted by: J-Bone | May 28, 2010 at 06:07 PM
And whoever it was that said that every city's fans complain about dirty plays and bad refs is absolutely right. The complaints are the same in every city. Some cities just care more, but the bad-mouthing of the refs is the same...says something about the refs, doesn't it?

Dirty players do not have to do illegal things and not get caught (i.e. Karl Malone). Just having the intent to injure your opponents is enough (i.e. Bill Laimbeer).
I didn't think that Howard was dirty at first, because quite frankly things happen in basketball. I've had my eyebrow split open from an elbow on a rebound by one of my best friends. Things just happen.
But ... what is most telling is Howard's body language AFTER he does something that is particularly damaging or cheap to another player. He refuses to even look in that direction as if he is ignoring it. That's not human nature - to not look at the guy you just planted on the ground and is now rolling around in pain - unless you know that the refs are looking at you and you're tryign to seem innocent.
Its the same body language that Bruce Bowen did every time he tried something ... like stepping under people when they jump so they land on his feet and turn ankles or bust ACLs. Exact same.
Posted by: Rob | May 29, 2010 at 03:07 AM
you all are forgetting the original argument: howard's dirty play is at odds with his facade.
i agree.
compare him to kevin garnet. garnet is one of the most intense, most competitive players of our generation, so it makes sense to see him throw an elbow here and there. not so with howard. with howard i don't see any real intensity, just immaturity giving way to childish frustration, and so the guy throws elbows like a bumbling, uncoordinated retard in an elementary school playground game, not like a professional basketball player hyper-focused on winning.
that's the difference. it's subtle but important. if you're not a true competitor, or you've never played organized sports, i don't expect you to understand.

Ended up here bc of Simmons, he's not a God, he's a decent sports writer, calm down haters.
As far as Boston is concerned, STFU and Stop whining, you are RICH with amazing sports stories over the last decade, and your dirty Celtics have given you a Championship in the last 2 years.
Howard is a Dirty Dude, sometimes. Just like every one of the Celtics seems to have a nasty or dark side. We'll be watching the finals closely.
And Rajon Rondo is the Biggest POS, not even funny.

will admit that half of these are just hard fouls (you come in the paint, he's gonna make you feel him), but to those people that think Perkins and Rondo are dirty players?!? are you kidding me? the next player they knock out with an accidental flying elbow will be their 1st. and next game they get suspended for trying to do that will also be their 1st. huge difference between physical and dirty.

This player usually plays center but he can also play power forward!!
Great thing is, Howard was named as the starting center for the East in the 2010 NBA All-Star Game.

Be nice to visit your blog again, the month for me. Well, this article I've waited long time. I wrote this article, we have to complete this assignment in college, and Sam's issue with your article. Thanks, great share.

Ole mukava vierailla blogissasi uudestaan, kuukausi minulle. No, tässä artikkelissa olen odottanut kauan. Kirjoitin tämän artikkelin, olemme saattamaan tämän tehtävän yliopistolla, ja Samin ongelma artikkelisi. Kiitos, suuri osuus.
