I think we can all agree that Paul Byrd has the best wind-up of all-time. (AP Photo)
Paul Byrd just added another feather in his cap of Red Sox lore. After pitching admirably for Boston last year, he came in yesterday after 11 months away from the game and pitched six shut-out innings - which was not expected by anyone, especially when you look across the mound and see one of the most coveted pitchers on the planet in Roy Halladay. Byrd's old-time delivery seems to fit very nicely in the oldest ballpark in the America, and now the big question about Byrd will be if yesterday was the exception, or if that's what should be expected. Per usual, the answer probably lies somewhere in middle there, but either way - you have to tip your cap to his performance, and now we'll wait with curious eyes to see where he fits from here on out. Regardless, he's helping now, as we're that much closer to the playoffs, with a surge of momentum on our side.
