Three Generations of Red Sox Nation cheering the Red Sox on. (SawxBlog Photo - L.Pearl)
A little over two months ago my brother and his wife welcomed the newest member of Red Sox Nation to this world, Trevor Montgomery. My Dad's currently in Chicago visiting with them and they all were able to watch the Red Sox defeat the Yankees in a three generational viewing. Not a bad way to spend your first night with your Gran Dad huh? And even though I was just down the street from Fenway on Comm Ave, I was wishing I was in the Windy City with them watching the game on ESPN.
This is what Red Sox Nation is about. It's not about having a membership card at all, it's quite simply a family affair, and it's something you're born into. As dumb as sports can be, and as ridiculous as they may seem when placed in stark contrast to the harsh realities of everyday life, they offer a common bond between people and families, and offer a great escape from the mundane of the day-to-day. It's the greatest form of reality TV ever. Even in some of my families darkest moments, like when my mother was losing her battle with cancer, we all (her included) were able talk and laugh about the Red Sox while in the hospital and hospice home. Once again, the great escape.
So is Trevor getting brainwashed into Red Sox Nation? I sure hope so, because I sure as heck was a little over 30 years ago, and it'd be a shame if he wasn't, 'cause he looks darn good in that T-Shirt :-)

T. Montgomery Burns?
Welcome to the Nation, little one...
