The surging Red Sox have now pulled within a half game of the Devil Rays as they rocked the Orioles last night 12-1. Kevin Youkilis led the way for the Sox as he hit his first career grandslam and had a career high 6 RBI. The above picture says it all as the Red Sox have a ton of momentum on their side right now heading into the All-Star break.
Weekend Sawx News of Note:
- I can almost guarantee you that most Sox fans out there are secretly (some not so secret) happy about Lugo going on the DL with his quad injury. Jed Lowrie who's been on fire in the minors may finally bring some pop back to the SS position and maybe help surplant Lugo by pulling off a Jacoby Ellsbury type move. Lugo's salary is still something the Sox are most likely going to have to eat, but the next few weeks will be more then interesting seeing how this transpires.
- Ponder this. Jed Lowrie has 7 RBI in 18 games. Julio Lugo has 22 RBI in 82 games...you do the math.
- Since we're on the numbers lets tip our cap to his Royal Youkness as he is now the RBI King (63) on the highest run scoring team in the AL, and that slots him at 5th overall in the AL. Who would have thought that?
- July 25th, expected time David Ortiz (remember him?) is exected to be back with the Red Sox. Team the Sox will be playing? The New York Yankees. Love it.
- Boston was featured by ESPN for the fabricated Title Town USA promotion and I learned Papelbon should not be the spokesperson for Boston sports. And......how does Boston not win this again?
- Looks like the collar is getting a little tight for those
DevilRays huh? - Who starts the All-Star game for the AL? I say no on Mo, and yes on Justin Duchscherer. Homey's 10-5 with a 1.78 ERA...I mean come on. Put Papelbon in the 8th and Mo in the 9th, that's how it should be.
