Manny Ramirez Traded to Marlins for Jason Bay & John Grabow + More. (SawxBlog Illustration)
You read that right folks, Manny Ramirez Traded to Marlins for Jason Bay & John Grabow in Three Way Deal. This was just broke by Will Carroll over at Baseball Prospectus and the deal in its full is as follows:
- Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
- Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (Red Sox), and cash (likely covering Ramirez’s remaining salary)
- Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two Marlins, one Red Sox)
More to come on this as it breaks, all I have to say initially is that if this is true it's an absolutely BRILLIANT move on Team Theo's part. You'll see a clubhouse with a veil lifted off of it along with one of the more talented relievers in the National League this year and a standout stud of an outfielder in Jason Bay who is still in the prime of his career.
Manny, all I have to say is be careful with what you wish for, you just might get it. It truly is the sad end of a twisted yet great relationship. See you in Cooperstown Manny, see you in Cooperstown.

manny... I've had 13,456 enjoyable bud lights since you've been with the red sox... but I must say the past 23 beers since you've started making those comments have tasted sour.. so sad...
p.s. By the way, I watched the Highlander movie, It was shit!

Josh I couldn't have said it better. As time goes by Manny and Boston will look back at the "good ol' days" with a smile. Right now we're in the middle of a breakup, and....well, we don't like each other. *Sigh*

I think that's a stretch. Guy's career ERA is hovering around 4.5 and his WHIP around 1.45. Congrats, you just got a younger version of Sterling Hitchcock.
Bay, on the other hand, might be decent at Fenway. He's no Manny, though, which is great news for Yankees fans.
Tell Big Papi to buy a new pair of walking shoes. ;-)

You losers go ahead and keep on telling yourselves how much better you'll be without Manny but no matter who the Redcox get for Manny, his replacement won't have a .400+ BA and 50+ HRs against us. It's a win/win situation for us regardless of what happens cuz even if he stays in Boston, the team's chemistry will take a shot. Wasn't it like a month ago when people were saying that the Yankees won't make the playoffs? Well the tides have changed and now the defending world champions won't even make the playoffs.

One can only hope this or any deal goes through. We thank Manny for his help in changing the ending to Fever Pitch.
However, at this point he would be missed like a tooth gone bad and then removed. He'll leave a big whole for a while but we won't miss the pain.

Brilliant? You're joking right?
Manny is a notorious Yankee killer. I'd rather face Jason bay 5 times than Manny once in a big spot. This is a great day for me.
This was always my point about Manny being an ignorant fool. The fans in Boston cheered for this guy, but if he was on ANY other team you'd think he's an idiot. I don't hate the guy... I think he is a complete clown and he disrespects the game... but he's just too much of a clown to despise.
I guess, looking at the fact that Manny would have been gone next season anyway, this is a good move for your future. But dont kid yourself and think this is a good move for this season. nothing matters besides the fact Manny MASHES the Yankees. If Bay becomes a yankee killer and a HOF calibur player then I'll eat crow... but for now i am THRILLED.
On the flip.. I know it sucks for you, cus deep down i am sure you wanted Manny to work out and he was such a major part of this rivalry. But I guess all things come to an end. I've never seen someone run(5.7 seconds to 1st base) himself out of town like this guy did though.
From Hi-5'ing fans and getting praised cus he's so Manny... to this shit. WOW.

If this is true, it doesn't matter how you cut it - this sucks. No question that Manny could be a pain, but there's also no question that he has been one of the (if not the) most reliable performers on the team for the past 7 years. I'm pretty sure part or all of this fiasco was engineered by Red Sox management. And what is it with their ugly divorces from star players? Manny's Manny, but there's a history of handling these things poorly.
I note that Pudge is going to the Yankees - how about we keep Manny, get Posada and unload the steaming pile that is Varitek instead? I mean, if we're interested in a shot at the Series and all.
Lastly - not to make a huge deal out of this, but if this deal goes through, the Red Sox get just a little bit whiter. It was kind of eye-opening playing the A's and seeing how few guys of color there are on the Red Sox.

How are you 'getting' Posada now? You know he's just had season-ending surgery yesterday too, right?

@ Dog: That's an interesting point about race. That's one thing I've most definitely liked that Manny brought to the awful racial past of the Red Sox. However, he's painted himself in a corner and the Sox can't try and get a bat based on race, they have to do it on what's out there and who's available. I really think this ownership group is color blind, but that is an interesting angle on all this. Manny most certainly touched demographics J.D. Drew doesn't even sniff. Good comment.

Finally something Sox and Yankee fans can agree on!! Goodbye Manny. Don't let the door hit you in the......

Without Manny no one would even know this blog exisits. I think you should have built the team around manny, instead of surrounding him with nerds like the catcher and youkilis, and that 2nd baseman
