The Red Sox were able to stave of losing two games in a row to the Arizona Diamondbacks last night as they rallied in dramatic fashion for four runs in the bottom of the eight inning. Dustin Pedroia, who was in the midst of a pretty gnarly slump, had another two hits and two RBI to help raise his average up to .284 on the year.
The story of the game in my eyes however was another super solid performance from rookie pitcher Chris Smith. Smith kept the Sox in the game going 2.0 IP and giving up zero runs. He picked up the first win of his MLB career and has been filling in admirably since being called up. Aside from the grandslam he gave up to the Cardinals (which wasn't truly his fault) he's been lights out for the Sox.
Tim Wakefield looks to end the Red Sox home stand on a good note tonight before they head off for more interleague fun in Houston.
