"...you just have to come to expect a 4 hour contest between these two clubs"
That is one of the last sentances I wrote yesterday and boy did it hold true once again for a Red Sox vs. Yankees game. Even though the Boston Marathon isn't scheduled until Monday, the Sox and Yanks had another marathon of their own as they beat on each other last night for four hours and eight minutes. I honestly can't tell if I love these epic match-ups, or if sometimes they can be a bit much, but in the end I'll take these game over any other series, each pitch and at-bat just seems that much more important.
So far this year both the Yankees and the Red Sox have made quick work of their younger pitchers, and last night was no exception for Clay Buchholz, who lasted only 3.2 innings and gave up 7 ER. The silver lining to last nights heavy weight bout is that the Yankees had their supposed ace on the mound, and the Red Sox punished Wang as much as the Yankees punished our rookie, so it can't be all that bad.
I mean, with Beckett on the hill tonight I'm not expecting a no hitter (would be pretty nice though!) but I am expecting at least 6.0 IP and no more then 3 ER, which should give the Sox a solid chance to win the game. We'll see how he reacts though, as the Sox look to split in the Bronx in a series that honestly seems to be happening way too soon since the last one.
Season Series:
Sox 2, Yanks 2

Two things, maybe three:
1. I think that Tim Mclellan is past his prime. That or just an idiot. You don't wait until someone is jogging towards first to decide that it was a strike not a ball. Time to hang it up Tim.
2. Dude, we need a new short stop. I've had it up to (look up very high) here with Julio Lugo. Here's my thought; once Mike Lowell returns keep him at third, keep Youk at first and move Pedroia to short stop. I think Pedroia has enough speed and can make those type of plays a short stop can. Put Sean Casey at second, the guy seems to bring a lot to the table, seems very focused, and he's pretty good ball player. Just a thought.
Oh and to fix Big Papi's hitting problem, I think he should have and still could focused more of his off time working on being more fit. I think since he's a DH he takes his physical health for granted. If he did get in a little bit better shape, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Red Sox do kind of a DH rotation to help give some guys nights off. Just a thought.

Troy, I have to say I love your comments man :-)
1. Couldn't agree more. His uber belated calls we way over board and very "Naked Gun" as times.
2. Much like I stuck by J.D. last year, I'm hopelessly a fan of Lugo...this may be a sickness.
3. Big Papi loves mango salsa.

I totally agree with Papi's physical health comment.
I don't know much about the dynamics of a swing, but every pound lost is 4lbs of pressure relieved on your knees, that has to account for something if your swing actually requires the lower body flexibility and balance that it looks like it does.
Maybe he should cut out the chips with his mango salsa :-)

Thanks D!
I got a vision in my head of Tim McClelland doing the whole Naked Gun bit, hilarious!
MLB should let McClelland get to the ball park, put his gear on, and then as he's walking out, call him and say "You're fired!"
