Winning the way the Sox did last night sure felt good. (AP Photos / SawxBlog Montage)
My phone rang about 0:30 seconds after the Sox won last night and my buddy Josh summed up the game as well as I ever could have:
"Everything just feels right again now doesn't it?"
And I couldn't agree more. It was only a little over a week ago that the Red Sox were flying high on the crest of a six game winning streak, the Celtics looked like they were going to win their first round playoff series against the Hawks by an average of 20 points, and the NFL draft hadn't yet occurred so I didn't have to unearth the still fresh would of SB 43. Simply put, all things were aligned in the sporting universe.
Then the Sox started a five game losing streak capping off with a weekend series sweep by the D-Rays (I still just can't call them the Rays) the Celtics began to look like the ones who only won 37 games during the regular season, and I was forced to semi-start thinking about that league called the NFL again. Simply put, alignment had been lost.
Last nights game was feeling eerily similar to the last few games for the Sox where the starting pitcher pitched a brilliant game (Buchholtz & Beckett) but the Sox bats couldn't produce enough offense. Heading into last nights game I wasn't exactly thrilled about our chances with Lester squaring off against Roy Halladay, and the game seemed to be going exactly to script for the Sox to lose. Lester was unbelievable last night throwing a one hitter with the one said hit barely skimming over Frodo Perdroia's glove (how about his play in the ninth?!?). As bad as the Sox bats have looked recently you have to be pumped about our pitching staff, especially the young guns of Buchholz and Lester.
Tito made the right call by pulling Lester in the ninth for Johnny Paps, and the Red Sox hitters from Ortiz on put in great at bats, and the rest as they say, is history. I'm still concerned the Sox only scored one run and it was in the bottom of the ninth, however t was Halladay pitching so that may be a pass for them, but still, something has to change.
Hopefully the Sox changed the mojo for the city again last night and the Celtics and their fans can carry the momentum and excitement over to the Garden in what's a surprising and pivotal Game 5. I know I can't wait to be there tonight, and will have full correspondence tomorrow morning.
So far though, all seems aligned again in the universe, and I'm hoping it stays that way.
Enjoy the below as it'll become a part of a new SawxBlog tradition, because c'mon, everyone loves a good "walk-off" right?
