After all the talk of travel, after all the talk of Big Papi slumping, after losing Schilling for the year, among many other trials, the Red Sox still have battled and fought in this new born season, and as the standings sit now, they're three games over .500, and are sitting alone in first place. Yes I know it's amazingly too early to really be talking about who's in first (148 is their magic number), however it is important to note that after having as difficult a start to the season as a team could have (remember Beckett was on the DL and Mike Lowell currently is) the Sox have overcome, and against top notch AL competition too.
Much like Manny's ninth inning bomb the night before, Varitek's own ninth inning jack stole the show away from a very deserving player, this time it was Jed Lowrie. Lowrie not only collected a key hit (the first of his young career) to collect two RBI, but he also ran out a crucial and possible double play at first base which also pushed a run across the plate. Lowrie alone was responsible for 3 of the Red Sox 5 runs, and is yet another very bright spot in the Red Sox farm system. Remember the heroics of Brandon Moss in Japan? The Sox are more deep with their youth then I ever remember and it really is a true testament to the organization in general.
Tonight the Sox again take on the Yankees, in what truly is some crazy scheduling for the Sox, who are also in the midst of playing 20 games in a row, which is great for the fan, but I'm not so sure about the player. Either way, don't expect to go to bed too early tonight, game's on ESPN, and you just have to come to expect a 4 hour contest between these two clubs, especially on ESPN. I already miss Don & Remy tonight...
