Why hello, hello Red Sox Nation it's your good ol' friend Derek from SawxBlog letting you all know that I am indeed alive and well. I also wanted to let you all know that SawxBlog is indeed still here, and it's here to stay. I had to take a few weeks off from my blogging schedule to get some personal things in working order, however I'm excited to be back, and to back full boar.
I've been writing, illustrating, podcasting among all other duties it entails to keep SawxBlog alive and running for over three years now and I'll be honest, at times it can be exhausting. There's truthfully times where I wished that I could step back and just be a fan, however when I do that I often get disappointed with how some outlets are reporting on the Sox.
A sure result of the Red Sox winning the World Series in two of the past four seasons has been the number of Red Sox related blogs and sites that have been increasing exponentially. Some have been great, while some have been fodder, and I think what ends up lasting is ultimately chosen by you, my fellow Sox fans. And that's all I am and want to be perceived as, a fellow Red Sox fan. I've been this way since birth, and will be this way to death, for better or worse I get a lot of pleasure from watching this stupid game, and I'm not ashamed of it.
There's other sites that get threatened at times by what I do, and I think that the major media is absolutely threatened by the competition sites like SawxBlog present to them. That's the beauty of the internet though, it's the modern day gutenberg printing press, allotting for the masses once again to have a say in what matters to them.
And that's been my mission statement from day one. This site is done by the fan (me), for the fan (you). And that's how it'll always be. I want this site to present no BS, no hidden agendas, no nothing. This site's about being a fan, and loving a sport and in particular a team. Nothing more, nothing less.
And over the past 3+ years I've made some amazing acquaintanceships via SawxBlog and hope to continue to do such. I've been receiving a lot of e-mails asking me if SawxBlog's dead and the emphatic answer is no, far from it. I think 2008 will be a huge year for the Sox and SawxBlog, and I'm looking foward to experiencing the highs and lows with all of you.
I promise to continue to keep it real, as long as you continue to keep me honest. Thanks to all of you for making SawxBlog the success it's been, and I can't wait for Tuesday morning to come. 2008 has a lot of promise, and I'm honored to experience it with those who've been with me from day one, and those just joining now, it should be a fun ride.
Cheers.

Derek - I discovered your blog about a year ago and I love it. I am a displaced New Englander and enjoy being able to keep up with the Sox via the internet. I know that the Red Sox Nation includes more than New Englanders now, but when I first moved out of the area I was lucky to catch a game on TV only if they played a team local to where I lived. Thank goodness for your blog and MLB.com!! Keep up the great work!
