Well I just got back from the Boston Common Theater after watching No Country For Old Men (amazing by the way) and was getting settled into watching the Oscars with my lady when I ran across this link from ESPN.com: Source: Red Sox, Colon agree to minor league deal.
Wow, I'm honestly not quite sure how to react on this yet, however if it is true it most definitely gives the Sox a little more insurance with Schilling being out. If this is the case then it's pretty ironic that after all the fuss over Schilling's contract with its weight incentive clauses, we end up signing quite possibly the biggest pitcher out there (C.C. Sabathia excluded).
Seems off hand like a typical low-risk high reward signing by the Sox, much like the Wade Miller signing a few years ago. And this most certainly makes a crowded rotation even more full (pun intended) on a busy Oscar Sunday for the Sox.

Sigh, I'd rather have Kason Gabbard. But dwelling aside, this ain't bad.

Yeah, I'd say the Sox would much rather have Kason aboard then Gagme out, but those are the risks you take when you trade younger talent for older veterans I guess, can't win em' all. Texas sure has a nice young LH pitcher though.

Not sure about the of acquiring Bartolo either. We'll have to see how this fans out as the year goes on.I keep my fingers crossed that he stays healthy.

It certainly gives the Sox an experienced veteran with schilling being out and all. The Red Sox do have a young pitching rotation, and Bartolo has already impressed the minor league coach. So, if he gets into that mix of young pitchers, he may be just what they were looking for. I do agree, he has to stay healthy in order to keep his spot in the rotation because there is a lot of youger ones who could step in and get the job done.
