Andy Pettitte apologizes to the media yesterday - (SawxBlog Illustration / Junkees Logo - Ji Lee)
Andy Pettitte Apologizes for his HGH use but...I don't know, I'm haven't 100% bought into this whole "Andy's such a great guy" story that everybody seems to be spinning. Andy Pettitte's a million times more of a better guy then Roger Clemens, but seriously, how much is that actually saying? That's like saying someone's more credible then Brian McNamee, may be true, but doesn't say much for the person.
First off, Pettitte saying he didn't use HGH to gain a competitive advantage is such a large load of horse crap that it make me gag, especially because of his being on the the Yankees, and seeing the backlash of such high profile steroid users such as Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield. He knew better then anyone the public outrage that results from the use of HGH, and well, that using HGH was wrong, there's really no way around that. By trying to recover faster from an injury aren't you trying to get your competitive advantage back? That's like me being really hungover and playing scrabble awhile using a dictionary to get my words, I'm not trying to get an advantage, it's just my brain hurts so I'm only going to use it to get to the exact level that I'd be at if I wasn't hungover. OK, I'm sure I lost some of you there, but you get my point.
Also, Pettitte isn't the Honest Abe he's being made to look like either. It took something like three times for the government to get the complete and true story out of him, so "nice guy" Andy wasn't really being all that honest or upfront. The fact that he came clean doesn't justify him getting a medal or any accolades either, it's just what he should have done from the very start.
I think Pettitte's use of HGH (and honesty) is being overlooked because of the absurdity Clemens is bringing down upon himself. I mean anything will look more appealing when it's sitting next to a steaming pile of shit. And this is not any Red Sox bias coming from me, if this were a Sox player (say that clown Gagme) I still wouldn't be happy, and I'd expect them to come clean, be honest, and move on. That's why although I think Giambi's a tool bag, I respect that when the crap hit the fan he played ball and was honest, and it's the route Pettitte's now taking, it just kills me how people feel the need to pre-face a sentance about Andy Pettitte by saying he's a nice guy. Your past makes up who you are today, and nice or not, HGH is forever a part of Andy Pettitte.
Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffield, Miguel Tejada, and Andy Pettitte = Steroid Users.

I agree 100 percent with your post. Let’s remember how Pettitte arrived in this situation. Would he be so truthful if he hadn’t ever been named in the Mitchell Report? No. Throughout this process, Pettitte has repeatedly told lies, or withheld information, only to backtrack at a later date. Even during his press conference yesterday, Andy refused to admit that he misled the Yankees by signing his contract when he had prior knowledge that his name would be included in the Mitchell Report.
There were 89 players in the Mitchell Report.
But what about these guys? Chad Allen, Mike Bell, Gary Bennett, Mike Cameron, Matt Herges, Glenallen Hill, Chuck Knoblauch, Brian Roberts, F.P. Santegelo and Fernand Vina
89 players in the Mitchell Report and we only celebrate one for admitting his wrongdoing.
Where are all the articles celebrating the honesty of these nine players?

What a shocker. This article that is.
First off: "Also, Pettitte isn't the Honest Abe he's being made to look like either. It took something like three times for the government to get the complete and true story out of him, so "nice guy" Andy wasn't really being all that honest or upfront. The fact that he came clean doesn't justify him getting a medal or any accolades either, it's just what he should have done from the very start."
Look into it a bit more. He was never asked about 2004 usage. He was only asked about 2002 when BM said he injected him. He VOLUNTEERED the information before congress.
Lets not forget that just because the Mitchell report conveniently did not have any Red Sox fingered in it, to think that jus as many high profile Red Sox players didn't do HGH or roids would make you ignorant. And we both know you aren't.
I know the Yankees are pure evil and all... but trust me... as great as it is to think that they were the only fools doing it.. is just stupidity.
Secondly - Did you actually watch the entire Pettitte press conference? I highly doubt you did, just a hunch... because if you did you'd realize it was about as honest as I have EVER seen an athlete be. He even went as far as to go back to a reporter whos turn was over and ask him if he answeed his questions, and stopped the "MC" and told him.. I'm fine.
Trust me.. I know it's hard to not view ALL and EVERY Yankees player in history as being evil.. but the truth is if Andy Pettitte did HGH... I am SURE some equally nice or not so nice Red Sox Players are guilty of it too. And I wonder if they would have been so forthcoming.
You Red Sox fans are most certainly getting buckets of laughs these days... and I say soak it all in. You've waited long enough... so far this decade has been yours.. at least the middle portion of it until currently.
But just as you and other Boston die hards failed to speak to much of the biggest Super Bowl choke ever, after gloating all season... i am sure words would fail if Sox started getting fingered for Roids. At least as many words as have been said about the Yankees players at least. I'm willing to bet alot of money... we'd all here something like... well the Yankees players did it too. ALL players did it. No one is immune from suspicion in my eyes.
Unfortunately the game has changed. Very few respect it. Very few respect the history. It's a shame.. but it's this era we live in.
Lastly my man... and I hope you have not taken any of this to heart.. I haven't made a comment in a LONG while, because I know we will always have conflicting opinions for the most obvious of reasons, BUT when Pettitte first used HGH... it was legal in the game... and it was touted as the fountain of youth... and a superb healer. Not a muscle developer and SUPER ROID. i believe there was alot more innocence in what Andy did then just about anyone else who used. Clemes can go jump off a cliff as far as I'm concerned.
It's all a shame.
I wonder what Yankee will be fingered next. You guys should erect a shrine dedicated to Mitchell for this. I'm sure it wasnt a 100% biased report... but the mere fact that he gets paid by the Sox... should strike some flashing question marks to anyone with a brain.
Can't wait for opening day. The Jacoby watch is on. Guy is going to be ridonk.

Let's put this to rest. Plenty players on every team have used. Ortiz has used PEDs as well. This is common knowledge in the D.R. It's not just Ortiz though. pretty much every young player and many current players from the D.R. uses. They line em up and shoot em up. It's not their fault. It's their ticket out of poverty. Ortiz trainer distributes steroids and HGH. Hmmmmm....
