The Boston Red Sox have offered Iron Mike Lowell a 3-year deal in which they're indicating as being a very "strong" offer. Details on the deal aren't finalized, however the offer is said to be three years guaranteed in the range between $12-$15 million dollars per year. I'd have to say that this is a fairly strong offer, and it's exactly what I expected the Sox to come after Lowell with, however I honestly don't expect Lowell to accept the offer.
It's widely known across baseball that Mikey could get a deal with the same amount of money per year with a guaranteed fourth year tacked onto the contract. With the Red Sox using the verbiage of "strong" it makes me believe that even they understand that Iron Mike most likely isn't going to accept. It almost seems as more of a ploy to help make a Red Sox Nation, that's at a feverish level for their desire to re-sign Lowell, believe they tried everything they cold to re-sign the solid 3B.
If Lowell accepts the offer I'll be pleasantly surprised, however with that being said, I wouldn't be holding your breath on his accepting of the deal. I honestly think that the Red Sox were hoping for a home team discount more then anything, and didn't really have it high on their list to re-sign Lowell, which as I've stated in previous posts, isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like the idea of keeping an influx of old and new players on the squad, however, if we got into a four year situation with Lowell we could possibly end up in a situation down the road where we'd be handcuffed into making bad decisions because of his contract.
Like I've been saying, I hope an amicable deal can be reached, however I honestly don't see it happening, we'll see what happens though. In other unrelated baseball news, it looks like there indeed may be something in the water in New England, as the New England Revolution has made it to the MLS finals, Congrats boys!

hah hah. Yeah dude, that goal was SICK. I'm actually pretty surprised they didn't call dangerous on it, but the way he split those two defenders it's be hard to whistle that.
Joga Bonita.

Didn't Theo, more recently, say it was a priority to re-sign Mike?
VERY good opinion though. It made me re-think.
