It was announced last week that Red Sox manager Terry Francona will be replacing former A's manager Ken Macha as the manager of the Major League All-Stars in the "All-Star Series 2006". The games will be taking place from November 3-8 and Tito will be the only Red Sox in attendance. Click Here to read more on this event.
Red Sox Get Their Hitting Coach
In what seems to be a downgrade, in my humble opinion, the Red Sox hired Dave Magadan to replace Ron Jackson. Magadan was fired this past season by the San Diego Padres as their batting average dipped to .252. I think you have to note that there weren't exactly a lot of sluggers on that team, but still I was a huge fan in Papa Jack, and Dave will have some large shoes to fill in the clubhouse. Jackson seemed well respected and liked in the clubhouse, however there must be a reason for the Sox getting rid of him, and I hope Magadan's a good fit.
Dave had a respectable .288 BA and .390 OBP in his 16 seasons as a big leaguer. When speaking about his upcoming role Dave had one of the biggest understatements of the off-season thus far when he said, "I believe in looking at a lot of video. David Ortiz isn’t going to get pitched the same way as an Alex Cora." So does that mean Alex is going to be back next year? I'd be surprised...
R.I.P Nelson de la Rosa
Dominican Nelson de la Rosa passed away in Rhode Island while visiting two of his brothers. Nelson was Pedro's "good luck charm" during the Red Sox historical march to the 2004 World Series and he'll always be remembered fondly here in Boston.

Just wondering what you think of Mags thus far as the hitting coach.

What ever happened to the old baseball rule of "protecting the plate"? When I played for Hop Riopel at Holy Cross if we took a called third strike with men in scoring position we would sit on the bench for a week. Now it happens every day with Boston, especially J.D. Drew. Isn't this the job of the hitting coach?
