Oops he did it again... (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer)
David Ortiz now has two walk-off hits in as many days, as he helped push the Boston Red Sox past the Phillidelphia Phillies, 8-7, in 12 innings yesterday afternoon. I was lucky enough to be at this game, and emotions were running high as well as low in section 41. This was my fifth game of the year, and my personal record now stands at a solid 4-1. I've seen two walk-off hits, Patriots Day & yesterday, and have also seen the only two blown Jonathan Papelbon saves. Not sure what any of this really means, except that I've been getting my money's worth.
It's really too bad Wakefield didn't earn the 'W' yesterday, as he pitched a pretty solid game. The Sox made him wait awhile as they scored 6 in the bottom of the 6th, and he just wasn't the same after that. Seanez is a name you will never see written in this web space again...mark my words.
On a side note of interest from yesterday, I was 90% certain that my buddy Ben was bad luck for the Red Sox. Point in case, Ben went on a beer run just before the bottom of the 6th, Sox score 6 runs and he sees none of them. I seriously thought he'd gotten lost underneath the confines of Fenway, however he came back, and just as he sits down, the Red Sox recorded their third out. Then the top of the seventh comes and the Phills score 5 to make it 6-5. I was pretty close to sending Ben back to the concourse. I made some friends with some Philly Phans to my right (good guys by the way) and every time Ben left to go to the bathroom they screamed at him not to leave, he was like kryptonite for me, and a rabbit's foot for them.
It's a good thing I don't believe in stuff like that though because after Jon Jon gave up the HR to Chase Utley Ben was about to sprint downstairs but I made him stay, and in the end it was another storybook ending at Fenway.
I don't even know if there are any adjectives left that haven't been used in describing what David Ortiz does. His ability in the clutch is something you just have to shake your head at. Some guys just have it, and #34 has it, and I'm glad he's swinging a bat for the good guys.
The NY Mets come into town now and there's a lot of talk about how they have the 3rd best record in MLB, yadda yadda yadda. Well I listen, there's a fine reason for that, they freaking play in the NL East. So far the Red Sox have won 9 games in a row against their opponents. If the Sox were in this division we'd win 125 games. The same argument can be made for the "dangerous" and "re-vitalized" Detroit Tigers. Please, when you play 19 games against the Royals you better have a good record...
Anyways, should be a good/fun series. Jon Lester aims to go 3-0 tonight as the Sox look to get number 10 in a row.

Wow, you were THERE! Nice! I wrote an open letter to "our" Rudy that should be read. My link is under Red Sox Blogs (Peter's Red Sox Forever), thanks to sawxblog.com. Bring on dem Mets!
