Well the Boston Red lost out in the Roger Clemens Sweepstakes to the team that really had the advantage all along, the Houston Astros. This was most definetly a little bit of a let down, but as my buddy Josh said, at least he didn't go to the Yankees. Which I admit is slight consolation. It would have been an amazing story if Roger came back, not just for Boston, but for the end of his career as well. Instead of going out in a blaze of glory with the Red Sox, Clemens will most likely waltz into the sunset with the comfortable, hometown, and non-playoff bound Astros.
Apparently the Red Sox went the uber sentimental route and offered the Rocket $21,000,021, which makes me pretty happy to see the Sox made a very honest effort. The deal was still short of the $22,000,000 that he accepted with Houston, bit I can accept Roger going there. At the worst, I feel like that after this ordeal Roger will:
A) Have his number 21 retired by the Red Sox
B) Go into the Hall of Fame with a 'B' on his hat.
And if you're going to get a consolation prize, I guess you can't complain too much about that.
