The Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Ray for the second day in a row on a rain soaked night in the Fens. The biggest story of the night was David Wells return to the Red Sox rotation, and unfortunately, his departure from the Red Sox starting line-up. David took a liner off of the same knee that had him out for basically the whole season, and his chances of going back on the DL have to be pretty good right now.
What's the deal with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays hitting our starting pitchers with shots up the middle? I'm not too sure how serious this is yet, but I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Wells decided to call it quits because of this. Rehabilitating again may be too taxing on the veteran, and again, the Sox are going to be left scrambling to figure out who their 5th starter is going to be.
Roger Clemens is starting to look like a better and better of an option for Boston as each day (and pitcher getting hit) goes by. It makes you wonder what life would be like for the Boston Red Sox if they could actually trust Keith Foulke. A viable option for a dominant 5th starter is closing for us right now because of Johnny from Burger King. (What was up with his freak-out last night!??) *sigh*
David Ortiz looks to be hitting his way out of his little mini-slump as he went 2-5 with 4 RBI last night. Also the 2006 AL Starting 3rd baseman Mike Lowell had another ho-hum day at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBI and 1 HR. Lowell now has 7 HR's on the year which puts him only 1 long ball away from his HR total of 2005. Getting him with Beckett is looking like a genius move by the Red Sox front office right now.
Curt Schilling takes the hill tonight as the he aims for the 200th victory of his career, good luck Curt!
